Adverse Behaviour & Emergency Response

An Important part of working for ASA is how to conduct yourself with respect to your behaviour, the behaviour of your co-workers and how to ACT in an Emergency Situation and the Responses expected of you. This part of our Induction covers Adverse Behaviour and the procedures you need to Learn for an Emergency Response.

Disciplinary Procedures

Throwing objects, careless driving,abusive language or any form of fighting, bullying, or illegal activity is not acceptable and will result in Immediate termination of engagement for anyone whose actions threaten the health and safety of others or damage property.

Workplace Violence and Harassment

  1. Verbal or emotional bullying.
  2. Harassment or discrimination.
  3. Any form of abuse or threats against individuals or property.

Direct all public complaints to the Event Management Centre (EMC) for proper logging and resolution.

Risk Assessment and Reporting

We strive to maintain a workplace free from discrimination and bullying, adhering to the Human Rights Commission and Equal Opportunity Act 2010. All staff are briefed on acceptable behaviors and reporting procedures.

Emergency Procedures

  1. Stay Calm
  2. Move Away: Evacuate the hazardous area safely and assist others if you can.
  3. Notify Emergency Services: Contact the EMC or call 000 if necessary.
  4. Await Instructions: Follow evacuation orders and control access to affected areas.
  5. Contain Fires: If safe, close doors and windows to contain fire.
  6. Extinguish Fires: Only if you are trained and it’s safe to do so.

Event Staff Responsibilities

EMC Coordinator

  1. Manage communications and notify emergency services.
  2. Log incidents and keep the team updated.

Chief Warden

  1. Take control of the incident site and ensure safety.
  2. Communicate event-specific factors to the EMC.

Deputy Chief Warden

Assist the Chief Warden and take over if they are unavailable.

Area Wardens

  1. Ensure safety and assist in evacuations.
  2. Report incidents and follow EMC instructions.

Communications Coordinator

Manage emergency calls and maintain communication between teams.

All Employees

Follow directions from Wardens and report any issues.

Evacuation Procedures

  1. Gather at the Venue Marshalling Point.
  2. Report to the EMC about the situation.
  3. Assign staff to assist with evacuation.

Evacuation Steps

  1. Direct patrons calmly to the nearest emergency exit.
  2. Ensure all areas are clear (rooms, offices, restrooms).
  3. Avoid using mobile phones near potential explosives.
  4. Wait for instructions from the EMC before re-entering the premises.

Armed or Dangerous Intruder (Code Black)

  1. Remain calm and comply with the intruder.
  2. Notify the EMC and provide details about the situation.
  3. Lock doors and secure the area as much as possible.

Civil Disturbance

  1. Notify the EMC and avoid confrontation.
  2. Keep cash handling areas secure and follow EMC instructions.
